You pepper believe it, it’s harvest season! This week at market you’ll find a variety of bright, summer produce, including peppers of all sorts, tomatoes, and more. Get out your favorite pepper recipes ready, and be dazzled by the array on display.

For an alternative to salads, try a traditional Peperonata, a savory stew from the South of Italy. Made of charred or roasted sweet peppers, tomatoes, onions, leeks, herbs and a zip of lemon, peperonata is delicious on it’s own, as a topping for bruschetta, or as a meal over rice or pasta.

While Italian roasted peppers are a classic summer dish, try your hand at making Japanese Style Grilled Bell Peppers for a different flavor. With a sweet and savory dressing made with a dash of saki, mirin, and bonito flakes, these grilled bell peppers are mild, sweet, and crisp— perfect for summer snacking or a light side dish.

• Wasco Fisheries is here with high quality fresh, smoked, frozen, and canned salmon! A Native-owned business, Wasco Fisheries harvests salmon on the Columbia River using traditional techniques that have sustained the local ecology for thousands of years. Wasco Fisheries is committed to care for the land and water for future generations, while supporting equitable access to healthy, locally harvested food.

• Drop by Maruti’s booth this week for delicious Indian food, sourced locally with organic ingredients, and prepared with love. Try their vegan and vegetarian Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, and tasty samosas!

• Have you checked out Gee Creek Farm’s value-added products? In addition to their produce, locally grown beans and grains, they offer a delicious selection of breads and pastries, as well as salsas, pestos, sauces, and falafel mix.

• Visit Dark Matter Mushroom Cocoa, for an adaptogenic powdered mushroom drink, served hot or cold, made with simple ingredients.

• Every Wednesday is Tamale Day! Sara’s Mexican Tamales is now located in a red food truck at the end of market near 20th! You’ll be sure to find all of your favorite Mexican dishes: tamales, tacos, burritos, pozoles, and refreshing Agua Fresca!
