In early April, we can begin planting out all the cole crops including Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Turnips, Kale, and Collards. It is also a time of planting greens. This is a key time to focus on soil building strategies to support these plants and the ones that will go in the ground in the months to come. This class will include information about diverse ways that you can enhance the nutrient availability and nutrient holding capacity of your soil. Composting, hugelkultur, sheet mulching, vermiculture, and compost tea are some of the strategies that will be highlighted. Many of these strategies also help with the water holding capacity of your soil, a necessary criteria as we prepare for what may be another long, dry summer.
