SELFIE HELPIE: home school edition

Whilst being pleasantly self-centered and with one another, we will sink into a sphere of lyrical softness as we pal up and talk about dreams, draw process-ey maps, come up with creative self care practices for each other, maybe write some poems, do some eyes-closed dancing, and other un-ironic-pseudo-self-help management tools that may come up.
*Bring pens / pencils / paper... but we’ll provide these things too.

About the Artist

Lu Yim (they/she) creates performance work with sound, language and movement. This process leads to metaphors and ideas performed as actions, sometimes with objects. Support for their work has come through the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (Creative Exchange Lab), Performance Works Northwest and Pieter Performance Space. She is part of Physical Education, an ongoing performance / critical engagement / support group with Takahiro Yamamoto, Allie Hankins and keyon gaskin (Portland, OR). Lu has presented her work in Mexico, Minneapolis, Austin, Seattle, New York and Portland.

About home school

home school is a free pop-up art school in Portland, OR run by Victoria Anne Reis and manuel arturo abreu. We provide welcoming contexts for critical engagement with contemporary art and its issues. Our pedagogy honors the casual rigor of the etymology of “school,” from the Greek ‘shkole,’ meaning “spare time, leisure, idleness, rest.” Contact us at portland.home.school at gmail dot com.
