Double Up Food Bucks Match Change Effective 11/10 Due to Loss of Federal Funding
We have received notice that unfortunately the grant that funds our in-store Double Up Food Bucks program has limited funds due to lack of federal support:
“Double Up Food Bucks Oregon is funded through private, state, and federal funds. Historically, federal funding has supported half of the Double Up Food Bucks Oregon program budget. Unfortunately, the program was not awarded federal funding for the upcoming year.” (Oregon Food Bank)
In order to stretch existing funding to support the demand, we have been asked to reduce our Double Up Program from a $20 match per transaction to a $10 match per day. This change will be implemented at the Co-op starting Tuesday, November 10th.
In addition to the match decrease, the Co-op may be subject to a monthly cap in allotted funds. This could mean a pause at the end of the month for some stores that offer Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB). Meaning, we may have to pause giving people DUFB. We are not certain if/when this will happen.
We understand how disappointing and challenging this is and appreciate your support through this transition. Unfortunately this is out of our control and is the direct result of lack of federal funding. Please check out our FAQ for more information and ways you can help.
Double Up at People’s Farmers’ Market will remain at a $20 match per day:
The Double Up program at People’s Farmers’ Market is funded through the Farmers’ Market Fund, drawing on a combination of federal, state, and private contributions. Historically, federal funding has constituted 50% of this match. While this program was not awarded federal funding for the upcoming year, the The Farmers’ Market Fund will continue to draw on state funds and other fundraising opportunities to minimize the impact of federal cuts on existing markets.
At this time, we anticipate no scheduled interruptions or changes to the Double Up program at People’s Farmers’ Market, and that current market customers and farms should not be significantly impacted in 2026-2027. This means that we anticipate the $20 match per market day will continue throughout the 2027 market season.
FAQ
How long will the daily maximum be $10 in-store?
This depends on funding
If the Oregon Food Bank is able to get increased federal funding next spring it is possible that we may increase the daily maximum but it is uncertain.
